Les Dogues (Ares del Maestrat, Castellón) is a small rock shelter. It is well known because here is preserved one of the best war scenes of the Levantine art. More than 27 archers divided in two parties fight each other; the left hand group seems to defend from the attack of the right hand group, whose warriors are apparently retreating after the attack with some of their comrades wounded. All the figures are of small size (around 6 cm) in dynamic attitude and very stylised.
This shelter is currently closed to the public, despite it is protected by an iron fence. The small paintings cannot be seen from outside of the fence.
This shelter is located near to La Montalbana country house. The access is through a paved road towards Mas de Quico that is located 500 m before La Montalbana while driving direction Ares del Maestre. After crossing the gorge, a walk of 500 m by a trail in bad condition is necessary to reach the site.
